Local tech entrepreneur Jakob Lodwick appears to be experimenting again, and as always, having a bit of fun. Methinks Jakob, a keen analyst of human behaviour, wouldn’t have rocked the world with his biz partners in building their base business if he wasn’t.
He’s offering a simple monetary reward in this experiment, cold hard (well, hard as in difficult when purchasing Euros, anyway) American dollars. As you know, Jakob and his band of merry techies have been before on the leading edge of several hot concepts, this bit of fun and real tabletop fusion, as opposed to this, appears again about network culture and the reason I mention, here this fine summer weekend, Jakob’s challenge.
There’s a lot of talk in the blogosfera re aggregating enthusiasm, on the edge as it were, and potentially disruptive economics. The concept isn’t so complicated, if you recruit at low cost for low cost labour (i.e., search costs are negligible), then you may be able to compete, economically, with those doing business without the on-demand-and-as-needed network recruiting benefit. And Dell thought hardware manufacture on-demand was the big thing :)
Perhaps the media, a potential victim of this new found networky power, comes first to mind when thinking about where edge aggregators may be making a dent. Many speculate re the demise of MSM, though it’s difficult to say if it’s going to be a fender bender or totalled. I’d guess it’s some place in between; MSM will fight hard and the LCD of the population will be there to carry the momentum for a while.
The LCD should not be dissmissed, it’s easy to forget not everyone reads and has the luxury or will to deviate from essential life support activity. Aside, this is one of the thoughts behind the 24×7 iCollaborated experiment, there is a certain friction unwittingly, or perhaps not, helping to increase the division between the haves and have nots as the network culture evolves. But I digress.
It will be interesting to see how Jakob’s 100 dollar market experiment plays out, I wonder if the average cost will be higher or lower than making sheep (click more). Of course some of the data would need to be adjusted to take into account the playfulness of Jakob’s challenge, but on the other hand…

Disclaimer: Jakob stopped in to do a shoot with us for iCollaborated with left-coaster James Hong, this post re his participation contest is in no way compensation for his providing witty banter that groggy morning :o)
