There’s a terrific interview with Richard Linklater in Filmmaker Magazine about the making of Philip K. Dick’s A Scanner Darkly along with a few of the cool rotoscoped images. Linklater:
Dick wrote this paranoid future, and my premise with the movie was that we are living in science fiction now. This is the paranoid future. I mean, Dick was coming out of the Nixon era in which there was wiretapping, there was COINTELPRO, [the government was] after citizens, even to the extent of assassinating citizens like [Black Panther] Fred Hampton.
UPDATE: Here’s link to trailer.
