Raycers in the 2005 North American Solar Challenge (the ~2500 mile solar-powered cars rayce from Austin, Texas to Calgary, Alberta) have made it to Winnipeg. Follow the race via GPS tracking here. For you scorekeepers, University of Minnesota arrived first in Winnipeg, MIT second, and University of Michigan arrived third. I heart this kind of stuff, we need to provide students on every level more challenges such as this, and on different scales.

Solar power may or may not be a good way to power automobiles, wtfk. Let’s just hope solar and other alternatives mature before the economy is empaled by the business end of the oil production curve which it appears we’re racing towards. Okay, that’s enough of that dreary subject for a Friday afternoon.
BTW, if you know of anyone vlogging the rayce or have seen videos posted online please contact me via the form.
UPDATE: University of Michigan is the first team to cross the finish line, rayce elapsed time of 54:04:43
