The Register interviewed Max Levchin asking what he thought was cooking over at Google regarding their entrance into the payments biz. In case you don’t remember Max was one of the founders of PayPal, the other was Peter Thiel.
Methinks despite everyone already having email accounts Google have managed to attract a decent following. If they improve upon the PayPal experience as well as open up new markets for micropayments and mobile payments they’ll be on the front edge of that market. Google’s plan is most likely much deeper than simply the Wallet product, it could be quite some time before it becomes obvious what foundations they are building.
