The makers of the documentary Mad Hot Ballroom had a bit of dancing to do themselves to manage their costs and exposure in securing the rights for music in the film. As mentioned in the interview with Mad Hot Ballroom producer/writer Amy Sewell, she and director Marilyn Agrelo smartly pre-cleared most of the music before filming and did their best to not film where uncleared music was audible.
